MVC Easton Ave and Franklin Blvd

April 10th - Sunday proved a busy day for the rescue crews at Station 25. At 1839, Stations 25 and 27 were dispatched for a MVC at Easton Ave and Franklin Blvd with possible extrication. Car 25, Rescue 25, crew of Eng. Pinnella, Engine Captain Middleton, Engine Lieutenant Natal and Eng. Amos and Van 25, crew of Truck Lt. Wilson, and FF Baker, responded to the scene. Upon Rescue 25's arrival, the rescue company stabilized both vehicles and pulled off hydraulic tools in order to gain access to the patients. However, EMS was able to get all the patients out via the non-damaged side, so after the crew stabilized the vehicle, CVFC FF's assisted EMS with patient care. Firefighters from Station 27 stood by with a charged handline in case the car ignited.

CVFC members attend advanced extrication training

April 10th - Today 3 members of Community VFC attended an Advanced Motor Vehicle Operations course at the Somerset County Fire Academy. Eng. Amos, FF Whitaker, and FF/EMT Greenhaus spent 8 hours learning different techniques to remove a trapped victim from a cars that were found in unusual positions. The training culminated with Eng. Amos demonstrating how to remove the B post of the car using a technique that our instructors didn't even know, but one that everyone agreed was a more effective way than what had been shown in class.

Churchill Ave. and Veronica Ave Car Vs. Pole

April 10th- At 0048 District 3 was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident for a reported Car vs. Pole at the Intersection of Rt. 27 and Veronica. Because County Dispatch had stated there was no extrication needed, Engine 253 responded with a crew of Eng. Pinnella, FF Dumbuya, and FF/EMT Greenhaus to mitigate vehicle hazards. Car 25 arrived on scene and stated that the car had struck the pole on Churchill Ave, and had completely sheared the pole in half. The driver was uninjured and 253's crew assisted PSE&G in removing the pole from the road, as well as containing the fluids that were leaking from the car.

Ladder 25 to New Brunswick

April 8th - At 1438, Ladder 25 was requested to respond to New Brunswick Fire Headquarters 2nd alarm assignment. New Brunswick was operating at a 2nd Alarm structure fire, and Ladder 25 was on standby should a 2nd truck be needed and for any calls for the truck that would occur within the city limits. As there were no additional calls, Ladder 25 returned from fire headquarters after about an hour.

Firefighter's Wife extinguishes fire

April 7th - at 0711, Distict was dispatched for a reported smell of natural gas the the Franklin Township high school. Upon the arrival of Assistant Chief Toth, FHS cafeteria staff stated there had been a grease fire in the stove, which had been extinguished by the wife of CVFC President Lew Pinnella, Patricia Pinnella. She had grabbed an ABC extinguisher off the wall and put the fire out. PSE&G arrived on scene, secured the leak, and the scene was turned over the the Franklin Township Bureau of Fire Prevention officers.

NATURAL GAS LEAK ON PERSHING AVE

April 6th - At 0100 hours, District 3 was dispatched for a reported smell of natural gas at 55 Pershing Ave. First Arriving units stated they were able to smell the gas from the street. Ladder 25 responded with Eng. Amos, FF Whitaker, and FF/EMT Greenhaus. Squad 27 responded with Station 25 Engine Captain Middleton riding as the officer. Upon arrival, Ladder 25's crew began searching the apartment complex using gas meters in order to located the source of the gas. When Capt. Middleton arrived, he proceeded to the command post to assist with operations. Fire crews identified the source of the leak, requested PSEG to respond to the scene, and began to evacuate the residents from the apartment complex. Franklin-Somerset First Aid Squad and Rutgers EMS transported patients from the scene who had becomes sick from the gas. Units cleared in about an hour.

WORKING CAR FIRE ON CHESTER AVE.

April 4th - At 2359 District 3 was dispatched to a motor vehicle fire at 36 Chester Ave. Engine 253 responded with a crew of 5 firefighters under the command of Lt. Natal, with Engine 251 right behind them with a crew of 4, under the command of Capt. Inzano. When they arrived, E253's crew forced entry into the trunk of the vehicle (above where the fire originated), and disconnected the battery from the car. E251's crew stood by with tools ready to assist the IC needed with any task he needed completed. Units cleared in 30 minutes.
