Brush Fire
March 30th - At 1544,
District 3 was dispatched to 81 Veronica Ave next to the old Shoprite
for an unknown type of fire. Car 25 immediately called in service
followed by Engine 251 then Engine 253, Engine 272, Engine 278 and
Rescue 25. Upon arrival 25-A established command and confirmed
that there was a brush fire adjacent to the Bravo side of the old
Shoprite complex. Engine 251 arrived first due and stretched out a
line to the fire. Engine 253 then arrived second and stretched out
an additional line. Units from Station 27 and Station 25 assisted
until the brush was soaked thru. All units cleared within 30
minutes.
Engine 251 1st due on working fire
March 23rd - At 1255, District 3 was
dispatched to 156 Mark St. for a possible structure fire in the 2nd
floor apartment. Franklin Police Department arrived first and found a
smoke condition in the residence and confirmed that all occupants were
out of the building. Engine 251 arrived first, and confirmed a working
fire in the second floor apartment. The crew from Engine 251 and members
from the Franklin Township Bureau of Fire Prevention pulled a 2-inch
line and made their way to the to the fire room. Mutual aid was
immediately requested from Station 56 for a FAS Team, coverage
assignments of an engine from Station 44, and a truck from Station 31 to
cover District 3. As the Engine crew was extinguishing the fire, Ladder
25 arrived, and was instructed to throw ladders to allow for additional
means of egress. Additional crews from Station 27 arrived, ventilated
the structure, overhauled the fire room and checked for extension.
Police Pursuit ends in rollover
March 19th - At 2311, District 3 and Robert Wood Johnson EMS were
dispatched for a rollover on Juliet Ave in Franklin. The driver of the
vehicle had rear ended a New Brunswick Police Department patrol vehicle.
After striking the car, and upon seeing two NBPD officer step out of it,
the driver fled to Franklin, where he eventually rolled his car. Chief
Ries was the first unit on scene, and was the incident commander. Rescue
25 responded due to the reported entrapment. First arriving units broke
the rear window of the car, at which point the driver was able to crawl
out. He was treated by RWJUH EMS at the scene, and taken into police
custody.
A Death in our Family
March 13th - It is with great sadness that we at Community Volunteer Fire
Company announce the passing of Ex-Chief and Life Member Vincent Calvo. Ex-Chief
Calvo started his firefighting career back in 1946, and held various offices,
including Chief of the Department. The viewing for Ex-Chief Calvo will be held
at Gleason Funeral Home on Hamilton Street in Somerset, On Thursday March 16,
from 2pm-4pm, and from 7pm-9pm. The funeral is scheduled for Friday, March 17th.
Reported Car Fire
March 8th - While
responding to a CO alarm activation on Hamilton Street, District 3 was
toned out for a second assignment
for a reported car fire
near other vehicles on Brookline Ave
at 2107 hrs.
Although they were enroute to the original call, Engine 253
immediately
diverted to Brookline Ave.
Upon arriving, Engine 253 found a mini-van fully involved
and was directed to assist with tools, while firefighters from Station 27 hosed
down the vehicle. All units cleared within 30 minutes.
2nd alarm fire sends Ladder 25 into New
Brunswick
March 3rd - On a cold Friday morning, the City of New Brunswick was
dispatched for a structure fire at 33 Commercial Ave. A second alarm was
sounded, bringing Ladder 25 into the city to standby at Fire Headquarters.
Ladder 25 stood by for close to three hours covering for New Brunswick Fire
Department as they operated at the fire.
