Confined Space Training

Sunday October 21st - Today we headed down to the Somerset County Training Academy where a Confined Space Training class was conducted for our department.  Since our department handles any and all Confined Space Rescues that occurs within our district, it was a good opportunity for our senior and newer firefighters to freshen up their knowledge and skills when it comes to Confined Space Operations.  Also it was a good chance to utilize the different special confined space equipment that we would use during an actual call which is stored on our new Heavy Rescue as well as our Special Operations Vehicle.

Rescue Harness Training

Wednesday October 17th - Members were in attendance for round 2 of training on our new rescue harness equipment at the Somerset Country Training Academy.  Each member got a chance to go thru a few evolutions which included an evolution with using just an RIT escape pak and a halogen bar.  If any members missed out on both sessions, a third round will be scheduled in the near future.

A Truck Company Welcome

Monday October 15th - The Truck committee would like to take a moment out to welcome 4 of our firefighters who have crossed the bridge from Engine to Truck Company.  The 4 firefighters that have been reassigned to Ladder 25 are: Jorge Martinez, Chris Fernandez, Brett DeMarco and Robert Karch.  In addition a new drill assignment is in the works in which weekly truck company operations will take place to ensure that everyone is prepared when such operations is required.

Churchill Ave Car Fire

Friday October 12th - At 03:21 hours, District #3 Fire responded to 91 Churchill Ave for a reported car fire.  Car-25 arrived on scene, established command and confirmed a working car fire in the driveway to the house along with the arrival of Car-27.  Engine-253 arrived on scene and stretched a line to the fire in which by then this Ford Mustang was nearly fully involved.  Engine-278, Car-27B, Squad-27 also arrived around the same time in which its crews pulled additional tools and went to work on the vehicle.  Shortly after the fire was contained, Engine-253 disconnected the line from tank water and Engine-278 re-established water supply to the line for overhaul.  Shortly after the fire was knocked down, all units returned to quarters with the exception of Engine-253 and Car-25 in which Franklin Township Fire Prevention was called to the scene to investigate to identify the cause.  Command was terminated at approximately 04:50 hours.
