Annual Station 25 Picnic

Sunday September 16th - Today, we held our annual firehouse picnic at Inman Park.  Members, and their family and friends were in attendance.  Some members got a chance to get familiar with some of the new members that have recently joined the company.  Others enjoyed a game of horseshoes.  The food was catered by Elmer's in which we would like to thank very much, the food was great!  After everyone ate, played games and continued with their conversations, the annual football game took place. Even though the teams were a little mismatched this year, it included the very young and the old.  Thank You Patsy and the Picnic Committee for making the picnic a success.

Fire Alarm - Smoke Condition

Sunday September 16th - At 11:42 AM, District 3 Fire responded to 73 Veronica Ave for a alarm activation due to smoke.  Chief Ries (Car-25) arrived on scene and established command.  Shortly thereafter, Engine-253 arrived as the first due engine, followed by Engine-278, Ladder-25 & Car-27, Car-27B.  The crew of Engine-253 activated the Knox box and gained access to the building thru the front door along with the crew from Engine-278 and immediately discovered a smoke condition in the building.  Both crews broke into teams and began a primary search of the building to locate where the smoke was coming from.  Ladder-25's crew begin to setup the ladder for a potential roof operation.  Engine-272 and Sqauad-27 also arrived on scene with additional manpower.  After doing a thorough search of the building, Engine-253 & Engine-278's crew teamed up and searched the middle of the building again, since the haze seemed to be located in that direction.  Upon walking back towards that direction, a fire was located within a large battery backup rack mount cabinet.  Command was notified and A dry chemical extinguisher was pulled from the truck with an additional on standby.  A line was then stretched into the building as a precaution.  Operations was handled by 27-A.  The scene was upgraded to a full assignment, bringing in Rescue-56 for a FAST Team, 31-Truck for an additional ladder as well as Car-56 & the Somerset County Mutual Aid Coordinator.  The panels to the cabinet were removed and the fire was knocked down with the dry chem.  The breakers to the entire UPS backup system was also shutdown to prevent a spread of the fire.  Engine-278, Truck-31 & Rescue-56 was then assigned to cover District 3, should there be other assignments to come in.  After the situation was under control, Franklin Township Fire Inspectors responded to the scene & mutual aid was terminated.  Command of the scene was officially terminated at 13:00 Hours in which all District 3 units were cleared from the scene.
