Structural Firefighting Drill w/ Station 31 Monday May 12th - Tonight along with Station 31, our brothers from the "Southside" we trained at a residential structure located at 29 Booker St. here in District 3. The crew from both stations did a walk thru of the house, then firefighters were broken up into groups of 2. We started off with an interior drill in which involved heavy smoke with little to no visibility. Search and Rescue was conducted with the interior crew. During this time, ground and roof ladders were setup on the Bravo side and Ladder-25 was setup on the Delta side so we could simultaneously conduct roof operations. Once each crew went thru the first evolution on interior operations, it was off to the roof to do some venting. Each firefighter had the chance to practice their techniques on both the roof ladders and operating off the bucket. Every firefighter in attendance including officers had the opportunity to fine tune their firefighting skills, whether it was on the roof or in the building. The officers from both stations agreed that this turned out to be a good drill and was highly impressed with the skills that was displayed by some of the newer probationary members from both Station 31 and Station 25. We would like to send our thanks to the training department as well as Station 31 for such a great turnout. We look forward to continuing to train together as future drills come up. Driver Training/Pre-Planning Thursday May 8th - While out for driver training, the crew of Engine 251 and Ladder 25 took a ride over to Frank's Building Supply off of State Highway 27 for some pre-planning. While on location we focused on the aerial placement as well as which sides of the building would be best to come in on the approach. Then we set the aerial up to the roof to understand the full layout of the building. When you are out in the district, it never hurts to do pre-planning and sizing up your surroundings well ahead of time. |
